2011 … FREEDOM 55 … Eh!

Somehow, sailing became … boating

We had a long standing desire to sail and cruise again. We already had a waterfront property with a floating dock, and we were planning to get a 30+ feet long Nonsuch sailboat. Somehow sometime between 2009 and 2010 our desire to sail transformed into a desire to do power boating.

What type of power boat then? After four months of research and reading, and numerous questions posted on the boating forums, we have decided on a sterndrive boat, a Chaparral Boats Signature cruiser boat in particular.

We have purchased a new-to-us 2007 Chaparral 270 Signature cruiser with LOA 28'11" and Beam 8'6" that seems to fit our needs. This boat is also called a "pocket cruiser" due to its beam of 8'6" that allows for unrestricted trailer towing on public roads.

The boat was built in 2007 but originally purchased and launched in 2009. Effectively the boat had only two seasons of use and less than 120 hours on its engine at the start of 2011 season. The boat was well maintained and most of the new-boat issues and any operational problems were already addressed and corrected.

We had a dock … now, we have a boat too

I took delivery of the boat on June 16th 2011 in Idaho, then got her to Ontario Canada on June 20th.

She was moored to our dock on Saint Lawrence River on June 24th ... yay!

Here she is ... our signature

2007 Chaparral 270 Signature ... that is.

After a very long haul on her own triple axle trailer, from Idaho to New Jersey to Ontario, Canada ... and to our dock.
